Michael Tanner talked about the various ways that the newly created joint congressional Select Committee on Deficit Reduction could go about reducing the deficit, and he responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. The elect Committee on Deficit Reduction was created on August 2, 2011, as part of the Budget Control Act of 2011 and comprises six Democrats and six Republicans. Mr. Tanner has been a proponent of making changes to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
